Setting a Balance

on

Last week, I was asked to share a few words with a vibrant group of young people about balance. For them, it is about their most important work at the moment (their study) and their spiritual life.

Like them, most people have been plagued by the compartmentalization of their lives, so much that a part is on hold while they work at the other. For these young people, they feel they have to suspend their walk with God while they study for their life careers, or suspend their career while they serve God without distraction.

Unfortunately, it is unknown to most people that these things are not designed to be do. Here are a few points and Scriptures I shared with them:

“You are spirits, with a soul, living in a body. What is within your spirit finds interaction with your world in your soul; It then works it all out through your body.”

“When there is a conflict between your spirit and your soul, the body is troubled.”

1. “So teach us to number our days, That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

Psalm 90:12 KJV

2. “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the COUNSEL of the ungodly, nor standeth in the WAY of sinners, Nor sitteth in the SEAT of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; And in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” – Psalm 1:1‭-‬3 KJV

3. The ungodly are not so: But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Psalm 1:4‭-‬6 KJV

4. “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.*

Ecclesiastes 12:13‭-‬14 KJV

In the ends, you are not a divided person. you are a single and unified life, with multiple expressions across different facets of life.

All expressions are coming out from your spirit, interpreted by your soul and expressed through your body. Whatever your body is interacting with would also be interpreted by your soul and stored up in your spirit. It is the sun total of the quality or character of your spirit.

So, guard your heart (spirit), for out of it proceeds issues of life. Be careful what you are exposing your soul to (intellect, emotions, will, imagination, and memory). Finally, be careful to choose wisely what your body is interacting with.

Peace to you.
